Ovit Tunnel Inauguration – Turkey’s Longest Tunnel Now Open

Aligned with Güven Holding’s commitment to advancing infrastructure, the Ovit Tunnel—supported by the company—has transformed a 138-year-old aspiration into reality, becoming Turkey’s longest highway tunnel. Connecting Rize and Erzurum, this monumental project features twin tubes stretching 14.3 kilometers and holds strategic significance for both the regional economy and transportation network.

The grand opening ceremony was attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, highlighting the project’s engineering excellence and substantial investment in Turkey’s logistics infrastructure. By eliminating the dangers associated with high-altitude mountain passes, the tunnel enables uninterrupted, year-round transportation.

Güven Holding played a critical role as a key project partner, contributing through infrastructure investments, logistics support, and on-site management. By enhancing transportation comfort for local residents and reducing logistics costs, the tunnel offers significant benefits—particularly for commercial traffic between the Black Sea and Eastern Anatolia regions.

The inauguration is also expected to stimulate tourism in the area. During summer months especially, both domestic and international tourists visiting the Black Sea can reach Erzurum and the inland regions more quickly, expanding travel options and boosting tourism revenue.

Since the project’s completion, economic activity in the region has surged, creating new opportunities for logistics firms and transportation companies. Güven Holding remains committed to monitoring emerging projects in the region and sustaining its investments with a focus on sustainable development.
